"I use research in behavioural science, psychology, business administration, and internationally certified coaching tools to develop managers' social & emotional skills to enhance employee satisfaction and engagement."

Dear HR Manager,

You want to support your leadership team in elevating their people skills to boost employee satisfaction and engagement.

I understand that the world is changing drastically. Managers now have to adapt to hybrid work environments and the demands of a new generation, and you don't have the time to function as a support system 24/7 to keep employees satisfied.

You have tried to balance business and people needs and feel like you are stuck in a loop of frustration. You know that your managers influence their teams, and if they could act with more people skills, it would make a big difference.

You might have already implemented 360-degree feedback and culture programs and invested in employee well-being. You might even have bought new plants for the office to create that well-being environment.

It's not easy to increase employee satisfaction and engagement to a top level.

However, I believe I have a solution for you.

Over the past 10+ years of studying people and leadership, I have collected numerous exercises, knowledge, and "social hacks" that actually work in practice. I know the most effective way to help your managers apply these in their daily leadership to have a real impact on satisfaction and engagement levels is through 1:1 coaching.

If your managers participate in my program, Social Smart Leadership, they will KNOW how to create satisfied and engaged team members, and they will WANT to create satisfied and engaged teams because they will no longer hold on to limiting beliefs about what behaviors they THINK work well.

And THAT will make your employee surveys show the desired satisfaction and engagement level.

What else can you benefit from The Social Smart Leadership Program?

Common issues & solutions

Together at the Top

1

Employee satisfaction is at a non-desirable level.

By coaching the leaders about their inner values and eliminating limiting beliefs, the leaders will become receptive to training behaviors that foster genuine satisfaction and engagement within their teams.

2

Hybrid work creates disengagement because the employees feel excluded and disinformed

When employees work from home, engagement can decrease because of the lack of inclusiveness and information sharing. With the skillset learned in SSL, the manager knows how to create engagement whether you are in the same building or on the other side of the planet.

3

The new generation comes with new demands in leadership

Generation Y and Z came with new demands on how to live their life and how they want their work to look. What's much more important than high pay or employee benefits are purposefulness and good company culture. And what do the leadership need to understand how to meet those depends? You guessed it - social and emotional skills!

"I can warmly recommend Johanna, she is clever and nice, easy to speak to and competent as well".

- Marina Paulaharju, Director of Seafarers' Pension Fund

My story

Johanna_familj-25(1)_edited_edited.jpg

My name is Johanna, and I am the founder of The Island Coach, passionate about leadership and corporate culture.

I was born and raised in Åland, which embodies a culture of entrepreneurship.

I began working while still in high school and experienced firsthand how the company I worked for transitioned from a positive culture to, under new leadership, imposing significant pressure on the staff and dampening morale.

This sparked my interest in how people and businesses interact, leading me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, followed later in life by a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a Master's in Psychology, all to deepen my understanding of human behaviour and entrepreneurship.

At age 20, I founded my own business—a horse farm and event company focusing on mental health. Through my business, I developed strong collaborations and led large groups of people (and horses) in my events.

Years later, while working in loss prevention in the marine insurance industry, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of a leader's social competence and the consequences when leaders lack effective communication skills and fail to create psychological safety within their teams and with their employees.

This posed significant safety risks and became a bottleneck for business operations.

However, it wasn't just social competence that posed challenges. I also observed leaders lacking emotional competence, making decisions to protect their egos rather than prioritize the business's best interests. They made insecure judgments due to a lack of self-trust and even behaved poorly towards their employees, resulting in negative cultural impacts rooted in their lack of self-esteem.

I also collaborated with shipping companies that invested in their leaders, implemented programs to enhance self-esteem and psychological safety, and consistently cultivated a positive organizational culture.

I encountered authentic leaders who acknowledged their mistakes, were eager to learn, and genuinely cared for their employees. I witnessed direct positive impacts on safety statistics within these shipping companies.

Determined to empower myself further, I enrolled in Uneståhl's international coaching program—a transformative journey led by Lars-Erik Uneståhl, a pioneer in Mental Training whose tools we integrated during our certification course.

This journey was about acquiring knowledge, shedding old beliefs, renovating self-perception, and promoting inner and outer development.

But the journey didn't end there. I continued my exploration, travelling to Thailand to deepen my coaching practice, which aligns with the profound wisdom of the life coaching philosophy. Yet, the most pivotal step in this journey was my decision to work on myself and help others do the same consciously.

When I returned home from Thailand in November 2023, I began to build the program that would become the Socially Smart Program for managers to enhance their social skills. I combined the best insights from my extensive academic studies in behavioral science, psychology, and business administration with the best practices from the coaching world.

This is more than a coaching program; it's an invitation to build strong social and emotional competencies, a conscious and empowering journey of self-discovery that transforms challenges into guides towards genuine team spirit.

Warm regards, Johanna

Your guiding hand towards a flourishing corporate culture.
