Daniel Goleman, an American psychologist, has revolutionized the understanding of how emotional intelligence (EI) impacts success and well-being through his groundbreaking books and research. His most famous work, "Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ," published in 1995, introduced the concept of EI to a broader audience and emphasized its importance in personal and professional life.


According to Daniel Goleman's research, 90% of the difference between top performers and average leaders is due to higher emotional intelligence rather than cognitive abilities. Furthermore, his studies show that people with high emotional intelligence earn $29,000 more annually on average than those with low emotional intelligence. This underscores emotional intelligence's significant importance for leadership and economic success.


Emotional Intelligence: A Definition


Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to identify, understand, manage, and use emotions constructively and productively. Goleman breaks EI down into five key components:
